If you want the best off-roader, do you really want the Mercedes-Benz G550? The luxury automaker tries to compete but there are ways that it, at its high asking price, still falls short. For real off-road prowess, check out the Wrangler at your Jeep dealer Baltimore.

Size
The Wrangler is built right to handle the off-road challenges. The G550 weighs 2,000 pounds more than the Wrangler Unlimited. The Wrangler Unlimited stands as high as 10 inches off the ground. The G550 has about 7.8 inches of ground clearance. The Wrangler Unlimited’s wheel articulation allows it to claim a smaller turning circle, another trail advantage over the G550.

Spaciousness
As for interior space, Edmunds argues that the G550 falls short, offering too little legroom at every position. The Wrangler Unlimited, on the other hand, offers a cabin that has attracted many families to its spaciousness. The G550 has a smaller cargo hold due to humps that limit width.

Fun
There’s no denying that off-roading is more fun with an open air ride. Unlike the G550, the Wrangler Unlimited can go topless and enjoy a closer connection to the trail where you are riding. The windshield can fold down and you can take the doors off. Schedule a test drive.

Pricing
The G550 costs about $100,000 more than the starting price for the Wrangler Unlimited. You could probably buy two Rubicons for the price of one G550. The Rubicon has been called the 4×4 of the decade. Find a good deal on the Wrangler Unlimited.
