The 4xe hybrid powertrain is also available with most trim levels and makes 357 hp and 390 lb.-ft. Ford opts for a turbo four-cylinder for the 2022 Ford Explorer: 300 hp and 310 pound-feet. You do have the option of a V6—400 hp and 415 pound-feet—via the high-end models. Grand Cherokee towing exceeds 6,000 pounds. Ford Explorer towing tops out at about 5,600 pounds.
All Grand Cherokee models come with Uconnect 5, which is the latest, most advanced and most feature-rich infotainment system that Jeep has developed. Ford recently introduced SYNC 4, its latest infotainment system, but has oddly chosen the previous-generation SYNC 3 for the 2022 Ford Explorer. The base touchscreen in the Grand Cherokee is a bit larger. Jeep also offers a more robust standard driver-assistance package. The base model, for instance, features adaptive cruise control and rear parking sensors with automatic braking. Ford requires you to opt for the performance-oriented ST or one of the luxury trim levels before that equipment is included or even offered.
