Jeep is soon introducing two new vehicles: the Wagoneer and the Grand Wagoneer. The Wagoneer is not a new nameplate, but it is being revied after a period of about 30 years. During that time, the Grand Cherokee has been the flagship Jeep SUV and the largest vehicle in the portfolio, but that is about to change. The Grand Wagoneer, which we focus on in this article, is the long wheelbase version. In other words, it is to the Wagoneer what the Grand Cherokee is to the Cherokee. It is worth mentioning that as of this writing the vehicle is in preproduction.

CloseThe new Wagoneer will be longer than the Grand Cherokee. The new Grand Wagoneer will be longer than the Grand Cherokee L, which has a 121.7-inch wheelbase and a 204.9-inch overall length. Final specifications for the Grand Wagoneer where not yet available. Wheel sizes should range from 17 to 21 inches. As with all Jeep vehicles, our location serving Hunt Valley Parkville Owings Mills Timonium Maryland will offer a variety of wheel designs and wheel finishes. All models will have four doors. A power liftgate will be standard, and a programmable hands-free liftgate will be optional.
The 2022 Grand Wagoneer—most likely to be the 2022 Grand Wagoneer when it arrives—can seat either seven or eight passengers. A second-row bench allows for an eight-passenger configuration, and second-row captain’s chairs reduces that capacity to seven. Similar seating options will be available in the recently introduced Grand Cherokee L. The L is an even more extended version that provides more than 17 cubic feet of dedicated cargo space and more than 30 inches of rear legroom. While we do not have the final numbers for the Grand Wagoneer yet, we do know that they will exceed the L.
The Grand Cherokee L is based on an entirely new platform, and it is expected that the standard Grand Cherokee will be transition to that new platform for the next model year. The 2022 Grand Wagoneer, however, uses a modified version of the platform used for the Ram 1500 pickup truck. That body-on-frame design provides this larger vehicle better handling and ride comfort. The primary modification is the solid rear axle being replaced with an independent rear suspension. Jeep will also give consumers the choice of either rear-wheel or all-wheel drive.
Our team receives many questions concerning which engines will be available, which was one of the motivations for drafting this early 2022 Grand Wagoneer review. What we know for certain is that the base model will have a 3.6L V6 that should be rated at about 305 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque. If other Jeep vehicles are an indication, you will have the choice of the eTorque mild hybrid system with this engine. It is likely that there will be at least one option: a 5.7L V8 rated for about 400 horsepower. There may be additional options or specific trims with exclusive engines.
The Grand Wagoneer is getting the latest Uconnect software: Uconnect 5. It will feature a camera system, rearview monitor, voice commands, wireless charging, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi hotspot and wireless Android and Apple device support. This setup will also have multiple touchscreens. A central 10.3-inch touchscreen will be oriented to the driver. A second 10.3-inch touchscreen will be oriented to the front passenger. There will also be a 12.1-inch display oriented above the central touchscreen that provides dedicated controls for the HVAC and other cabin systems. A full slate of standard and optional driver assistance technologies is expected but were not announced as of this writing.
