Recently a Jeep shopper pointed out that the Kia Soul has some similarities to the Jeep Renegade. So we paid attention and did some comparisons. Here’s what we learned.
Car vs. SUV
The Kia Soul is a car while the Jeep Renegade is definitely a sport utility vehicle. This means that the Renegade is built tougher and taller. Both offer front-wheel drive, but only the Renegade offers all-wheel drive. Of course, it also has off-roading capability. You’ll never find a trail-worthy Soul. The Jeep Trailhawk has been tested by leading auto critics and declared truly worthy of the Jeep name.
Performance
The Kia Soul seems underpowered. The engine generates only 130 horsepower. That’s far less than the 160-horsepower Renegade. The Soul’s torque thrust is similarly low while the Renegade enjoys 184 lb.ft. of torque. The Renegade has a 2,000-pound tow rating due to its tough build and engine prowess. Schedule a test drive of the all-new Renegade at Don White Jeep dealer Baltimore.
Transmission
The Renegade offers a nine-speed automatic that is exclusive to the Jeep line. It also has a manual transmission choice. The Soul’s transmission is a typical six-speed unit.
Space
The Soul and the Renegade offer 101 cu.ft. of passenger space. The Soul sunroof edition drops that to 96 cu.ft. The Renegade’s cargo hold is slightly bigger, and it lets you fold the front passenger seat to gain length for big hauls.
My Sky
Only the Jeep Renegade offers the MySky roof. Removable panels are easily stored in the hold. This turns Renegade into a true open-air ride.
